Since Last Year, Seoul District's First Self-Budget Support... Subsidies for Purchasing Vehicles Aged 50... Up to 13.6 Million KRW (Passenger) to 33.1 Million KRW (Cargo) Including National and City Funds with 1.6 Million KRW Local Budget
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (District Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced on the 4th that it will promote support for the purchase of electric vehicles starting this month to create a clean urban environment free of exhaust fumes.
Since last year, the district has invested 80 million KRW from its own budget, the first among Seoul's autonomous districts, to support the purchase of 50 eco-friendly electric vehicles, establishing a foundation for the commercialization of electric vehicles and working to improve air quality.
This year's support targets are residents aged 18 or older (including overseas Koreans and domestic permanent residents) who have had an address in Dongjak-gu for at least 180 days prior to the application date, as well as corporations and organizations purchasing vehicles eligible under the '2021 Electric Vehicle Distribution Project.' Support is limited to one vehicle per person or organization and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis within this year's budget allocation.
The eligible vehicle models include a total of 59 types from 17 companies: 46 models from 12 companies for electric passenger cars and 13 models from 9 companies for electric cargo vehicles. These can be confirmed on the Ministry of Environment's Low Emission Vehicle Integrated Website.
The district provides 1.6 million KRW per electric vehicle, and including national and city subsidies, support can reach up to 13.6 million KRW for passenger cars and up to 33.1 million KRW for cargo vehicles, which is about 4.1 million KRW more than last year. However, if receiving subsidy support, vehicle ownership transfer is restricted for two years, and if the initial registered usage location in the vehicle registration certificate is not Dongjak-gu, the subsidy support will be canceled.
Residents wishing to apply should prepare documents such as the electric vehicle purchase support application form, vehicle registration certificate, resident registration certificate, or business registration certificate, and submit them by visiting or mailing to the district office's Clean Environment Division.
Gwak Dong-yoon, head of the Clean Environment Division, said, "Through this eco-friendly electric vehicle purchase support, we will reduce urban exhaust and create a clean city environment free from fine dust concerns," adding, "We hope many interested residents will participate."
