Part of Building a Child-Friendly Educational City ... Targeting Completion by the End of June
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced that Mayor Jo Gyu-il visited the site of the children's playground facility construction at Mulcho-ul Park in Chungmugong-dong on the afternoon of the 3rd to check the progress.
Jinju City is utilizing an underused site within Mulcho-ul Park, covering an area of 6,000㎡, with a budget of 1 billion KRW from the provincial government and 2.9 billion KRW (1 billion KRW provincial, 1.9 billion KRW city) invested. The project began in December last year and is being accelerated with a goal to complete by the end of June.
To create the children's playground facilities, the city conducted a preference survey last June reflecting the opinions of nearby elementary school students and parents. Based on this, they are constructing combined play structures, pump play equipment, a children's zipline popular among visitors to Geumhoji Ecological Park, and a sand playground.
While previous children's parks were designed from adults' perspectives, Jinju City explained that the Mulcho-ul Park children's playground project fully incorporates the opinions of the primary users, the children.
Since last year, Jinju City has invested 1.3 billion KRW to improve residential conditions in the Innovation City by creating a walking trail along Yeongcheon River near Mujigae Elementary School, installing landscape lighting such as stepping stones connecting the Lee Seong-ja Art Museum and Jinju Pterosaur Footprint Exhibition Hall, thereby creating a waterfront space.
At the lower reaches of Galjeoncheon Stream, a pedestrian bridge connecting Mulcho-ul Park and Geumsan-myeon will be opened. A walkway maintenance project to connect the disconnected walking trails will commence in May with a total investment of 1.6 billion KRW, including 300 million KRW in special grants and 1.3 billion KRW from the city budget. Completion is scheduled for the end of the year.
Mayor Jo Gyu-il stated, "Through a linked project with LH (Korea Land and Housing Corporation), we will transform Mulcho-ul Park into a large-scale complex children's cultural space so that children can access desired playground facilities throughout all four seasons," adding, "Installing the walkway around Galjeoncheon will greatly improve the residential environment of Innovation City."
