"7-Year-Old Daughter Ultimately Killed by Husband... Request to Punish Police Who Ignored Separation Demand" Cheong Petition

[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Amid the discovery of a mother and daughter found dead in a multi-family house in Cheonan, Chungnam, a Blue House petition has emerged criticizing the police's inadequate domestic violence separation measures.

On the 2nd, a petition titled "Cheonan Mother-Daughter Suicide Case" was posted on the Blue House petition board.

The petitioner opened by saying, "The 7-year-old daughter and mother were subjected to domestic violence by the husband; while the mother was separated, the daughter was killed by the husband."

He stated, "At around midnight on the 28th of last month, while being assaulted by her husband, the wife called for help, and a neighbor reported it. The wife told the responding police, 'My husband will kill us all,' and requested, 'Please separate my daughter.'" However, the police, citing parental rights, asked the child alone when only the husband and child were present, and upon receiving the answer 'I don't want to go,' the police dismissed the wife's request, saying the child seemed comfortable with the husband," he conveyed.

He continued, "How could the police think it was comfortable for the father to be with the child who witnessed the father assaulting the mother? The mother and daughter are victims of violence," and pointed out, "It is incomprehensible to separate the daughter from the mother who was assaulted rather than from the father who committed the assault."

Additionally, the petitioner said, "In the end, the daughter was brutally killed by the husband, and the husband who killed the daughter also took an extreme step," and criticized, "If the daughter had been separated from the father as the mother requested, the daughter's death could have been prevented."

Finally, he emphasized, "I petition for the punishment of the police who responded negligently and inadequately, and for the strengthening of related laws to prevent such incidents from happening again through legal amendments."

In fact, the Cheonan Seobuk Police Station announced that at around 9 a.m. on the 28th of last month, the wife discovered and reported that A (45) and his daughter, a first grader in elementary school, were found dead in a multi-family house in Dujeong-dong, Seobuk-gu. Earlier that day, a nearby police substation had received a report from a neighbor about a marital dispute between A and his wife.

Meanwhile, the police plan to investigate the exact cause of death of the mother and daughter based on the autopsy report to be released on the 4th.
