[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Five crew members of the Korean ship Korea Chemi, who were detained in Iran, have returned to Korea. Once replacement personnel are deployed, it is expected that two more will return soon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 3rd that as of the 2nd, one Korean crew member and five Myanmar crew members have each returned.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "On the 10th, one Korean crew member returned first due to health reasons, and five Myanmar crew members, who did not require replacement personnel, transited through Korea and arrived in Myanmar last night."
Due to essential personnel for ship and cargo management, the shipping company is promoting a phased return. Soon, when replacement personnel (two Koreans) enter Iran, one Korean crew member and one Indonesian crew member will return.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "The government is providing necessary assistance related to the disembarkation and return of the released crew members," and added, "We are making multifaceted efforts for the prompt release of the ship and its captain."
