[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] It has been revealed that 79% of the privately owned land on Gadeokdo, where the new airport construction is being promoted, is owned by outsiders.

According to data submitted by Busan City and others to Yoon Han-hong, a member of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee from the People Power Party, as of December last year, out of the total 8.59 million square meters of private land on Gadeokdo, 6.77 million square meters were owned by outsiders who do not reside on Gadeokdo.

The largest private landowner on Gadeokdo, owning 210,000 square meters, was registered as having an address in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. Following that, residents of Haeundae-gu, Busan owned 62,000 square meters, residents of Geoje-si, Gyeongnam owned 49,000 square meters, residents of Tongyeong-si, Gyeongnam owned 42,000 square meters, and a resident of Chiba Prefecture, Japan owned 41,000 square meters.

Oh Chi-hoon, president of Daehan Steel and nephew of former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don, was also found to own 1,488 square meters of land near the planned site of the new airport on Gadeokdo.

Assemblyman Yoon said, "Most of the landholders are outsiders who have taken land due to the government's promotion of the Gadeokdo new airport construction, whose realization is uncertain," adding, "The residents of Gadeokdo will only suffer increased damage to their lives."
