Hanwha Q CELLS Sells 81MW Solar Power Plant in Texas, USA

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hanwha Q CELLS recently sold a solar power plant with a capacity of 81MW (megawatts) located in Cook County, Texas, USA. Adapture Renewables, the company acquiring this power plant, specializes in solar power plant project development, EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction), and power plant operations.

Hanwha Q CELLS began construction of this power plant in April last year, completed it in December, and started commercial operation. Located about 140 km north of Dallas, USA, this power plant produces enough electricity annually to supply approximately 115,000 households based on Korean standards.

Since declaring its vision to become a total energy solutions company in January last year, Hanwha Q CELLS has been actively promoting solar power plant project development and EPC alongside its existing solar module business. Furthermore, it is also advancing businesses such as power sales and distributed power management.

As part of these efforts, Hanwha Q CELLS acquired solar power project rights of 940MW and 429MW from Spain’s RIC Energy in December 2019 and November 2020, respectively. In August last year, it secured a 315MW solar power project combined with an energy storage system (ESS) for the first time in Portugal. In the power sales and distributed power business, it achieved 100,000 household subscriptions for Q.ENERGY, a German residential power supply service, in January.

Kim Hee-chul, President of Hanwha Q CELLS, said, "Hanwha Q CELLS is advancing beyond a solar cell and module manufacturer to become a total renewable energy solutions company. We will continue to actively promote solar power plant project development and EPC business, focusing on advanced energy markets such as the United States and Europe."

Meanwhile, Hanwha Q CELLS ranked first in market share for residential and commercial modules in the U.S. in the third quarter of last year. It achieved first place for nine consecutive quarters in residential and four consecutive quarters in commercial sectors.
