Announcement of the 'Dongdaemun-type New Deal Comprehensive Plan'... Details?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) announced the "Dongdaemun-type New Deal Comprehensive Plan," which includes 3 major sectors, 11 core tasks, 31 key projects, and 56 detailed projects, with the vision of "Leading the New Deal Policy Paradigm of the Era."

Based on the Korean New Deal promoted by the government, the district has set a plan to promote green and digital New Deal projects and strengthen the social safety net tailored to local conditions, with the determination to establish a realistic and systematic foundation for a region-led New Deal policy driven by the local community.

To implement the policy, the district secured a total of 41.7 billion KRW by 2023 to create a carbon-zero green city responding to the climate crisis, an untact and smart digital city suited for the post-COVID-19 era, and a city with a solid and tightly reinforced employment and social safety net.

First, to realize a sustainable green New Deal policy centered on the environment and people, the district will gradually promote ▲ the creation of a smart green city that can improve and solve climate and environmental issues ▲ the establishment of urban forests to reduce fine dust ▲ undergrounding of power lines ▲ installation of solar panels at rainwater pumping stations, which are basic environmental facilities ▲ green buildings to improve the residential environment and energy efficiency of old houses in the area ▲ and projects to reduce household waste.

In line with the rapidly changing digital era accelerated by COVID-19, the district plans to build a smart integrated platform linking safety systems such as 112, 119, disaster, and child protection for rapid response in emergencies, ▲ create a smart city ▲ implement the Green Smart School project ▲ and operate digital care projects for vulnerable health groups, thereby establishing a data control tower foundation capable of solving urban problems closely related to citizens' lives.

Finally, to protect vulnerable groups who face greater difficulties during crises and eliminate blind spots, the district will ▲ foster Dongdaemun-type industries for vulnerable groups based on local industries to discover jobs and cultivate human resources for employment ▲ expand the Bodeumnuri program and strengthen local networks ▲ and create an environmental education city, thereby building a solid employment and social safety net.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “To continuously and effectively respond to the society changed by the post-COVID-19 era, we established the New Deal Policy Team earlier this year and now announce the Dongdaemun-type New Deal Comprehensive Plan to actively promote the New Deal policy. We will implement this plan meticulously so that it can play a leading role in proactively responding to government policies and driving the development of the district administration.”
