[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] “Heal yourself in a clear water and a forest in the city where birds chirp!”

Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) has created the Cheonwangsan Ecological Park in the area of Hang-dong 148.

Guro-gu announced on the 3rd, “We recently completed a project to restore an area damaged by cultivation into a habitat for various flora and fauna and create an ecological park,” adding, “We were selected for the 2020 Ministry of Environment Ecosystem Conservation Cooperation Fund Return Project and received 500 million KRW in national funding to carry out this project.”

The Ecosystem Conservation Cooperation Fund Return Project is a project that returns up to 50% of the payment made by developers for the damage caused to the natural environment due to development, according to the Natural Environment Conservation Act, to conserve and restore the damaged natural ecosystem.

The selected project, 'Guro-gu Cheonwangsan Urban Small Organism Habitat Restoration and Ecological Network Construction,' was carried out focusing on the core area connecting Cheonwangsan, Pureunsumogwon (Green Arboretum), and Hang-dong apartment complexes. It reconnected areas that had been isolated from surrounding forests due to long-term cultivation, establishing a sustainable urban ecological axis.

Cheonwangsan Ecological Park is filled with various facilities and plants for residents to enjoy nature and serves as a habitat for birds, insects, and other organisms. Covering an area of 9,100㎡, it includes an ecological pond, retention wetland, bird habitat, observation deck, forest ecological playground, and walking trails.

279 large trees such as pine, plum, and hawthorn, 5,100 shrubs including evergreen trees, mountain hydrangea, and azalea, 8,740 herbaceous plants such as Korean chrysanthemum and iris, as well as vines and seeds of various trees were planted.

Guro-gu selected the banded darter dragonfly (Nalgaetti Jomjamjari) and the red-headed bunting (Bulgeunmeori Omoknuni), which were surveyed to inhabit the area, as target species and plans to continuously manage the park to secure suitable habitats and create a healthy ecological environment.

Additionally, Guro-gu will provide various services such as ecological exploration and experiential learning for visitors of the Cheonwangsan Family Camping Site (Hang-dong 149-1), Pureunsumogwon, and nearby residents.

Meanwhile, Guro-gu plans to create a complex cultural space around Cheonwangsan by preparing various experiential spaces such as an artificial rock climbing wall to be completed at the end of March, a smart farm, and a book resting area.

A Guro-gu official said, “We expect that the Cheonwangsan Ecological Park project will protect the environment and allow residents to feel the joy of nature,” adding, “We will do our best to provide various nature experience programs for residents and make it a space where tired bodies and minds can be healed.”
