[Kim Maengnyeong's Golf English Conversation] "What Are the First Aid Tips for Golf Course Accidents?"

[Kim Maengnyeong's Golf English Conversation] "What Are the First Aid Tips for Golf Course Accidents?" Unexpected accidents occur at golf courses.

"Wishing Tiger a speedy recovery."

The global golf community is focusing on Tiger Woods (USA) following his car crash. It is especially unfortunate as he will not be able to participate in the Masters this April due to the sudden accident. It is interesting that Woods often emphasized, "I’m addicted. I’m addicted to golf." Golf truly captivates one’s attention at any given moment. This is also why caution is necessary to avoid injuries on the course.

Abroad, various difficult situations arise, and hospital treatment can be challenging. One should never overexert themselves while traveling. A friend who played with me on the volcanic island of Hawaii suddenly suffered a stroke and has been receiving long-term treatment since being transported back to Korea. During a tour in South Africa, a senior colleague fell into a 6-meter deep bunker while reading the green and injured his back.

Another friend overturned a golf cart on a curved road at a golf course in the United States due to careless driving, breaking his collar bone, ribs, and leg, and was transported by ambulance. Even now, it is a harrowing memory. In case of an accident abroad, quick assistance is essential, so basic first aid knowledge is necessary. First, call the police or fire department (911) to request help.

"My friend injured. It’s urgent. Please send an ambulance right away." For reference, Korea separates crime and disaster reports into 112 and 119, but the US and Canada use 911 for both. If the injury is minor, ask someone nearby, "Could you take me to a hospital?" If you want a Korean-speaking doctor at the hospital, say, "Is there a Korean-speaking doctor?"

A (Police officer): Good afternoon, this is the police station. May I help you?

B (Golfer): I have a fracture in my leg by cart accident. Please send an ambulance right away.

A (Golfer): Could you take me to a hospital?

B (Fellow golfer): I’d be happy to drive you to the hospital.

A (Doctor): What are your symptoms?

B (Golfer): I think I broke my leg playing golf.
