Gwangju City and Honam Regional Statistics Office Develop Youth Statistics

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 2nd that it will develop youth statistics in collaboration with the Honam Regional Statistics Office to use as basic data for establishing various policies and creating jobs for young people residing in the region.

The development of administrative data is being promoted by the city for the first time this year and will be processed using existing administrative data.

It will be compiled into comprehensive statistical data including various survey data held by the city such as social surveys and the Gwangju Youth Comprehensive Survey, as well as data from related organizations such as the Statistics Korea, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Korea Employment Information Service, and National Health Insurance Service.

The main contents cover all aspects of young people's lives, including youth population and households, economy, jobs, startups, welfare, and health.

The youth statistics will be developed as basic data for youth policies to establish policies aimed at improving quality of life.

The statistical data will be approved as regional statistics by Statistics Korea in the second half of this year and will be provided in various forms such as result reports, statistical tables, and microdata on the city’s website and the national statistics portal.

Lee Seung-gyu, the city’s Smart City Officer, said, “As the saying goes, those who control data control the world. I hope that all policies, not only youth policies, will start from statistics and serve as a foundation for the development of city administration.” He added, “I expect that youth policies such as youth jobs will be promoted based on youth statistics, and that Gwangju will become a city where young people, the main actors of the 4th Industrial Revolution, gather.”
