[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do held a shipment ceremony on the 2nd to send 2,000 kg of live abalone to Taiwan from the Wando Seafood Export Logistics Center, which was completed on December 17 last year.
According to Wando-gun, this export is the first shipment since the completion of the Seafood Export Logistics Center and is an achievement made despite difficulties such as expanding export routes due to COVID-19.
At the event, only a minimal number of attendees participated while complying with quarantine rules under social distancing level 1.5, including Shin Woo-cheol, Wando-gun Governor, Heo Gung-hee, Chairman of Wando County Council, and Park Nam-gyu, Chairman of the Wando Seafood Export Logistics Cooperative.
The Wando Seafood Export Logistics Center was built on the rear site of Wando Port, covering a total area of 2,521㎡. It is the largest seafood export facility in Korea, equipped with a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certified facility, fish tanks, freezing and refrigeration rooms, and a rapid freezing room.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol expressed gratitude to those involved and said, “I hope Wando seafood, including abalone grown in the clean sea area, will be exported not only to Taiwan but also to countries around the world in the future,” adding, “I expect the Wando Seafood Export Logistics Center to establish itself as a forward base for seafood exports in Korea.”
Meanwhile, Wando-gun achieved seafood export results of 5,447 tons (64 million dollars) last year.
