[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Nationwide livestock farms will conduct simultaneous disinfection for 2-3 days to prevent avian influenza (AI), foot-and-mouth disease, and African swine fever (ASF).
Farm owners are advised to restrict the entry of people and vehicles into the farms as much as possible during this period and to mobilize their own disinfection equipment and personnel for thorough disinfection.
In areas where rain or snow has occurred, quicklime should be reinforced and applied to farm entrances and around livestock barns. Even if disinfection was done in the morning, it must be performed once more between 2 and 3 p.m., when the disinfection effect is optimal.
Those responsible for disinfection management at livestock facilities nationwide must mobilize their own equipment and personnel to disinfect the inside and outside of facilities, as well as vehicles, equipment, and supplies.
Special attention should be given to disinfecting vulnerable parts of each facility, and it should be checked whether the wheels and undersides of incoming vehicles have been sufficiently disinfected.
Poultry sales points in traditional markets and holding areas for traders will undergo intensive disinfection on the 3rd, designated as the "Simultaneous Closure and Disinfection Day."
An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs emphasized, "Simultaneous disinfection can remove any remaining viruses and prevent the outbreak of livestock diseases in advance," urging everyone to actively participate in the disinfection efforts.
