[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon Fire Station (Chief Ha Soo-cheol) urged on the 2nd to prohibit illegal parking around fire hydrants for smooth firefighting activities.
Fire hydrants are facilities that supply water to ensure firefighters do not run out of water during fire suppression, enabling smooth firefighting activities. Parking or stopping within a 5-meter radius of an installed fire hydrant is prohibited.
Violations incur fines of 40,000 KRW for passenger cars and 50,000 KRW for vans. In areas marked with red pavement, fines increase to 80,000 KRW for passenger cars and 90,000 KRW for vans.
The fire station continuously enforces illegal parking regulations, focusing on areas where fire truck access is difficult, such as around traditional markets in the jurisdiction.
Additionally, ordinary citizens can report illegally parked vehicles near fire hydrants through the Safety Report smartphone app, which operates a resident reporting system.
The Safety Report app covers all areas including daily safety and traffic safety, aiming to secure public safety from disasters or accident risks. Illegal parking in the five major prohibited areas, including around fire hydrants, is included as a reportable offense.
To report, select the illegal parking report category in the Safety Report app, click on the fire hydrant, then take and register at least two photos of the illegally parked vehicle from the same location and direction with at least a one-minute interval.
Also, the violation location and vehicle number must be identifiable for the report to be accepted.
The Suncheon Fire Station Chief said, "Securing firefighting water during a fire is of utmost importance," and added, "We ask for the active participation and cooperation of citizens so that fire hydrants can perform their role and enable smooth firefighting activities during fires."
