Gurye-gun Makes It Easier to Access Developmental Rehabilitation Services for Children with Disabilities

Designation of Gurye-gun Disabled Welfare Center as a Developmental Rehabilitation Service Provider

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gurye-gun recently announced on the 2nd that it has designated the ‘Gurye-gun Disabled Welfare Center,’ which meets service capabilities and facility standards, as a provider of developmental rehabilitation services for children with disabilities to ensure smooth implementation of these services.

The newly designated Gurye-gun Disabled Welfare Center will provide treatment services and information to improve the functions and behavioral development of growing children with disabilities.

The Disabled Children Family Support Project provides appropriate rehabilitation services to improve cognitive, communication, adaptive behavior, sensory, and motor functions for children under 18 years old with disabilities such as visual, auditory, speech, intellectual, and autism. It also supports reducing the economic burden on families raising children with disabilities due to high rehabilitation service costs.

Providers of developmental rehabilitation services for children with disabilities are institutions qualified under Articles 8 and 9 of the Enforcement Rules of the Welfare Support Act for Disabled Children and rehabilitation treatment facilities under Article 59, Paragraph 2 of the Welfare of Disabled Persons Act. A review committee composed of experts in the relevant fields and related public officials carefully evaluated facility standards, personnel qualifications, project execution capabilities, and expertise to select the institution.

The designation period is three years, from this year through 2023.

Kim Soon-ho, the mayor of Gurye-gun, stated, “Until now, there was no provider in Gurye-gun, so the families of the beneficiaries had to visit Suncheon, Namwon, and other places to receive services, causing economic burdens and inconveniences. We will continue to do our best to realize welfare for people with disabilities and their families.”
