[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A suspect involved in the theft of a safe worth over 100 million won from a gym in Gangnam, Seoul, was apprehended in Busan.
According to the Haeundae Police Station in Busan on the 2nd, at around 2:33 a.m. on February 28, a report of a drunk driving vehicle was received at the Jangsan Station intersection in Jwa-dong, Haeundae-gu.
Pedestrians reported that a vehicle was driving recklessly while people were walking on the street.
Police officers from the Jwa-dong precinct who arrived at the scene arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of drunk driving and took him to the precinct. Mr. A’s license was at the level of cancellation.
During the investigation, Mr. A, who was intoxicated, muttered words such as “safe,” “investigation,” “detective,” and “Naver search number one,” speaking incoherently.
The police closely observed Mr. A’s behavior and approached the truth by searching the internet for the words he uttered through voice calls and other means.
It was confirmed that Mr. A stole a safe containing about 100 million won in checks and cash from a health club in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at around 5 a.m. on February 25.
After the crime, Mr. A fled to Busan and was found to have squandered the stolen money on entertainment expenses. He even rang the “Golden Bell” at a bar and posted about it on Instagram.
The Gangnam Police investigation team, who were tracking him, happened to be on a business trip in Busan to apprehend Mr. A.
The police handed Mr. A over to the Gangnam investigation team, and Gangnam Police plan to apply for a warrant review on the 2nd.
