As China Faces Human Rights Attacks in Xinjiang, US Retaliates with Human Rights Report

Chinese State Council Targets US Domestic Issues... Attacks on COVID-19, Racism, and Wealth Gap
Claims of Xinjiang Uyghur Genocide by US and Western Allies Are Nonsense

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] The Chinese government is preparing and will release a report addressing human rights issues in the United States. As the Biden administration raises human rights concerns, with the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) stating that addressing China's human rights issues is a top priority, China appears to be responding by exposing the darker aspects of American society.

According to China's state-run People's Daily and Xinhua News Agency on the 2nd, the State Council of China has prepared the "2020 U.S. Human Rights Violations Report," which investigates human rights abuses in the United States and will be published soon.

The People's Daily reported that the U.S. human rights report, written in 15,000 Chinese characters, covers topics including ▲ the high death toll caused by the U.S.'s inadequate response to the infectious disease (COVID-19) ▲ the limitations of American democracy before and after the presidential election ▲ racial discriminatory attitudes based on skin color ▲ polarization caused by wealth disparity ▲ and violations of commitments (rules) with the international community. The report appears to be completed, and the Chinese government is currently weighing the timing of its release.

Regarding COVID-19, the report emphasizes that the incompetence of the U.S. political sphere has driven American society into an uncontrollable situation.

Xinhua News Agency noted that although the U.S. population accounts for less than 5% of the global population, confirmed COVID-19 cases exceed 25% of the world's total, resulting in the tragic loss of over 500,000 American lives. It added that the pandemic caused massive unemployment, further deepening polarization due to wealth disparity.

The report also addresses the chronic social ill of racial discrimination in the United States. Xinhua pointed out that the COVID-19 infection rate among Black Americans is three times that of White Americans, the death rate is twice as high, and the likelihood of being fatally shot by police is three times greater than for Whites.

Additionally, 25% of young Asian Americans reportedly face racial harassment, and an average of 1.6 people die daily from gun-related incidents, highlighting a collapse of trust in American social order, Xinhua emphasized.

Amid global struggles with the pandemic, the report also reportedly criticizes the U.S. for adopting an America-first and unilateralist stance, resulting in a loss of trust from the international community.

The Global Times condemned the U.S., stating, "The year 2020 marked the decline of American democratic institutions," and accused the Western bloc of making absurd claims such as the genocide of Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said, "The United States faces serious human rights issues such as racial discrimination and violent law enforcement," and expressed hope that "the U.S. will take concrete measures to resolve human rights problems."
