KPGA "April World’s First Professional Golf Team Competition to Be Held~"

[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] The Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) is hosting the world's first 'Professional Golf Team Competition.'

It will take place over three days starting April 9th at the Kyle Phillips Course of South Links Golf Club in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do. Teams with two or more players will participate to compete their skills. For its inaugural year, a total of six teams are targeted to participate, and registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis until the 5th. Going forward, the number of participating teams and scale will be expanded based on the 'Professional Golf Team Ranking Points.' The group draw will be held on the 8th of next month. The teams will be divided into two groups and play group preliminaries over two days.

On the first day, there will be a 9-hole singles match play, and on the second day, a 9-hole four-ball format (where two players each play their own ball and the better score is counted). Participation in at least four of the six group preliminary matches is guaranteed. The top team from each group based on cumulative points will advance to the finals. The championship match will be played as an 18-hole foursome (two players alternate playing one ball). The 20 million KRW prize money will be donated to a charity designated in the name of the winning team.

Currently, Webcash Group, consisting of Kim Tae-hoon (36), Kim Sung-hyun (23), Jang Seung-bo (25), and Park Jeong-hwan (28), and Woosung Construction, with members such as Choi Min-cheol (33), Eom Jae-woong (31), Kang Tae-young (23), and Son Min-gang (21), have expressed their intention to participate. Several other teams have also shown great interest. The event will be broadcast live on JTBC Golf.
