[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 2nd, First Lady Kim Jung-sook sent a video congratulatory message to support the dreams of students at the opening ceremony of Daegu Yearam School, Korea's first special school focused on culture and arts.


At the 1st entrance ceremony held alongside the opening of Yearam School, First Lady Kim said in her congratulatory speech, "Although we cannot meet due to COVID-19, the distance between our hearts is zero meters," and added, "I look forward to Daegu Yearam School's role as a cradle of the arts where students can confidently spread their wings of dreams without any prejudice or barriers."


Daegu Yearam School is Korea's first special school focused on culture and arts, established to provide customized art education for students with disabilities. A total of 105 students (new and transfer students) attend, including 8 in kindergarten, 64 in elementary school, 26 in middle school, and 7 in high school.


In the background of First Lady Kim's video message, artworks by artists with developmental disabilities were featured. These include "Sea Turtle and Coral" by artist Choi Cha-won, who depicted the joy of life; "Camellia and Lotus," which engraves precious relationships in our lives, by artist Shim An-su; and "Baby Elephant and Lion," expressing the gentle gestures of nature, by artist Kim Jae-won.


First Lady Kim also donated over 100 copies of 20 types of "easy reading books for slow learners," including the novel collection by Kim Yu-jeong, Jeon Woo-chi Jeon, and The Little Prince in Pictures, along with messages of encouragement to Yearam School.
