[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] On Tuesday the 2nd, snow and rain will continue across various parts of the country.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts that most of the snow will stop by dawn in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungcheong, and Honam regions, and by morning in Yeongnam and Jeju, but on the east coast, due to the easterly winds, it is expected to continue until around 3 p.m. As temperatures drop, rain will change to snow between the night of the 1st and dawn of the 2nd in the Seoul metropolitan area, northern Chungbuk, and Gyeongbuk regions, causing some accumulation of snow.
Expected precipitation from the previous day until 3 p.m. on the 2nd is 30?80 mm in Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, the east coast of Yeongnam, and Jeju mountains; 20?60 mm in eastern Gyeonggi, Chungbuk, Gyeongsang, and Ulleungdo·Dokdo; 10?40 mm in the Seoul metropolitan area (excluding eastern Gyeonggi), Chungnam, Honam, Jeju (excluding mountains), and the five western islands.
Expected snowfall amounts are 10?40 cm (with some areas exceeding 50 cm) in Gangwon Yeongdong; 5?15 cm in Gangwon Yeongseo and northeastern Gyeongbuk mountains; 3?8 cm in northern and eastern Gyeonggi, southern inland Gangwon Yeongseo, and northern Gyeongbuk. Northern Chungbuk will see 1?5 cm of snow before it stops. Ulleungdo and Dokdo, where snow is forecasted, will have 1?5 cm, and southern Gyeongbuk will have around 1 cm of snowfall. Cloudy weather will gradually clear from the western regions in the afternoon.
Morning low temperatures will range from -5 to 5 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs will range from 1 to 11 degrees Celsius, dropping compared to the 1st (morning 2.0?12.9 degrees, daytime 3.4?17.7 degrees). Due to smooth atmospheric dispersion and precipitation, fine dust levels will be good to moderate across all regions.
Strong winds with speeds of 10?16 m/s and maximum gusts of 20 m/s are forecasted for the Yeongnam coast and Jeju Island. The east coast and Gangwon Yeongdong are also expected to experience strong winds of 8?13 m/s.
Sea waves will be 2?5 m in the East Sea coastal waters, 0.5?3 m in the West Sea coastal waters, and 0.5?4 m in the South Sea coastal waters. Offshore wave heights are expected to be 3?6 m in the East Sea, 0.5?4 m in the West Sea, and 2?4 m in the South Sea. Strong wind warnings have been issued for all West Sea waters, the western offshore South Sea, southern offshore Jeju, and all East Sea waters, where strong winds of 10?20 m/s and high waves are expected.
