[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) held a 'Ttukseom Manse Movement Monument Construction' event in Seongsu-dong on March 1st to commemorate the 102nd March 1st Movement.
The construction cost symbolized the hope of Seongdong-gu by expressing two stone sculptures, inspired by the raised arms of the people shouting "Manse," coming together to form one heart.
In 1919, the Ttukseom area served as a fuel unloading site for Seoul citizens, where laborers such as cart drivers, porters, and carriers, who were common people, led the Ttukseom Manse Movement.
The Ttukseom Manse Movement holds historical significance as it reflects the shift of the main participants of the Manse Movement from national representatives and students to the working class, spreading nationwide at the time.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "A nation that forgets its history has no future," adding, "Through the newly constructed monument, we hope to reexamine the historical facts of the Ttukseom Manse Movement and that the spirit of the movement, born from neighbors uniting their strength, will be remembered for generations to come."
