[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The 'Level 2 social distancing' guidelines within the military will be extended for two weeks until the 14th of this month.
A Ministry of National Defense official stated on the 1st, "We have decided to extend the Level 2 social distancing within the military for two weeks until the 14th," adding, "During this period, the current unit management guidelines will remain unchanged."
With the extension of social distancing, soldiers' leave will be allowed within 20% of the unit personnel, as long as it is within the scope where leavee quarantine management is possible, such as the military's PCR testing capacity. However, overnight stays outside the base and visits will continue to be restricted.
Additionally, leave for soldiers living in areas where cluster infections have occurred may be limited, and outings will be generally controlled but can be permitted only in safe areas based on the judgment of on-site commanders.
The Ministry of National Defense previously eased the 'military social distancing' from Level 2.5 to Level 2 from the 15th to the 28th of last month, in line with the government's adjustment of social distancing levels and quarantine rules.

This brings the total cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the military to 575. Among them, 13 are receiving treatment, and 562 have recovered. According to health authorities' standards, 267 are in isolation, and 18,079 are quarantined preventively according to the military's own standards.
