Court Allows 9-Person Vehicle Protest on Samiljeol... Must Follow 11 Quarantine Rules

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The court has permitted a small-scale vehicle protest in downtown Seoul on March 1st. However, the number of participants is limited to nine or fewer.

According to the legal community on the 28th, the Seoul Administrative Court's Administrative Division 1 (Chief Judge An Jonghwa) partially granted the suspension of enforcement for the vehicle protest ban requested by the conservative group Patriot Patrol Team against the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief the day before.

Previously, the Patriot Patrol Team had notified the police of their intention to hold a vehicle protest on March 1st with 10 people using 10 vehicles, proceeding from near Independence Gate through Tongil-ro, Gwanghwamun, and up to near Hansung Science High School. However, after receiving a prohibition notice, they filed an administrative lawsuit along with a request for suspension of enforcement.

The court recognized the irreparable harm to the organizers caused by the prohibition and the urgent necessity to prevent it, thus permitting the protest. The court did not accept the police's claim that the protest would have a significant impact on public welfare.

However, the number of participants was limited to nine people using nine vehicles, and they were ordered to comply with 11 infection prevention and traffic safety rules.
