Hyundai All New i20
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Hyundai Motor's 'All New i20' has been selected as the 'Car of the Year' (ICOTY) in India.
Hyundai Motor India announced on the 27th that the All New i20 received 104 points from the judging panel at the prestigious 'ICOTY 2021' awards ceremony in India, making it the winning vehicle. This marks the seventh time Hyundai has won the ICOTY, following the i10 in 2008, Grand i10 in 2014, Elite i20 in 2015, Creta in 2016, Verna in 2018, and Venue in 2020.
The ICOTY is selected by a panel of 17 distinguished automotive journalists in India. They evaluate and score vehicles based on ride comfort, safety, technological innovation, value for money, and fuel efficiency.
At the awards ceremony held on the 26th in Gurugram (formerly Gurgaon) near New Delhi, Kia's compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) Sonet took second place with 91 points. The third place went to the Mahindra Thar, which scored 78 points.
The All New i20, a completely redesigned version of the previous i20 model, is a premium hatchback that Hyundai launched in the Indian market in November last year as a strategic vehicle. A hatchback is a vehicle that maintains the passenger car form but removes the separation between the cabin and trunk, with the rear door opening upwards.
Hyundai set a monthly sales record in the Indian market by selling 56,605 vehicles in October last year, and the following month also recorded the highest sales for November ever, with 48,800 units sold.
