[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 27th that it signed a strategic advisory contract for the construction of a new airport in Poland with the special purpose company CPK on the 26th.
Based on this contract, Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to transfer its expertise related to airport construction and operation during the planning stage of the new airport construction over the next three years. The total project cost is 4.2 million euros (approximately 5.6 billion KRW). The main tasks include ▲preparing a white paper ▲reviewing the master plan report ▲providing educational consulting.
The new airport in Poland is being promoted with the goal of opening in 2027 to respond to the rapidly increasing air passenger demand, and in the final stage, it aims to become one of the world's top 10 airports serving 100 million passengers annually. The Polish government enacted a special law for the construction of the new airport in 2018 and issued an open competitive tender in March last year to select a strategic advisory firm for the new airport, targeting global airport operators.
Incheon International Airport Corporation passed the pre-qualification screening, which selected up to four companies based on evaluations of airport operation performance and project execution records, and officially entered the bidding.
During the bidding process, Incheon Airport Corporation competed in the final round against Japan's Narita Airport, and after technical and price evaluations, it was selected as the highest scoring company for the Polish new airport project on November 24 last year. It is known that Incheon International Airport Corporation outperformed its competitor, Japan's Narita Airport, in all evaluation areas including the adequacy of deployed personnel, project execution plan, and price proposal.
Incheon Airport Corporation plans to leverage this strategic advisory selection to secure a favorable position in future strategic partner selections, as there is a high possibility of linking not only airport construction and operation but also equity investment as a strategic partner.
Meanwhile, Incheon International Airport Corporation entered the overseas airport business in 2009 by winning the new airport project in Arbil, Iraq. Including this Polish new airport strategic advisory project, it has won 30 overseas airport projects in 15 countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and South America, with a cumulative contract amount reaching 225.49 million USD.
