Lee Sedol publicly supports candidate Park Young-sun... "I don't know much about politics but trust without doubt"

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Former professional Go player Lee Sedol publicly endorsed Park Young-sun, the Democratic Party of Korea's preliminary candidate for Seoul mayor.

On the 22nd, a video titled "A Connection Continuing for 19 Years" was posted on Park's YouTube channel.

In the video, Lee, who introduced himself as "Park Young-sun candidate's fan, Lee Sedol," said, "I have maintained a connection with (candidate Park) since my first world championship interview 19 years ago."

The connection Lee referred to from 19 years ago refers to when he won the Fujitsu Cup World Go Championship at the age of 19 in 2002 and was interviewed by Park, who was then an MBC reporter.

Lee said, "(Park) came to support me during my match against AlphaGo and also gave me great strength during my retirement match against Handol (domestic Go AI). I am truly grateful," adding, "Although I don't know much about politics, I empathize with Park Young-sun's ideas, digital economy, and the great transformation of Seoul City, and I firmly believe she will bring a great transformation to our lives and my life."
