A Japanese journalist covering the military coup in Myanmar has been detained by security authorities.

According to Kyodo News on the 26th, freelance journalist Kitazumi Yuki, who was reporting on protesters in Yangon, Myanmar's largest city, was detained by security authorities on the same day.

He informed about his situation through a communication app, saying, "I am at the police station. I am not injured."

An official from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "He was not detained for malicious reasons, nor is it a serious form of detention."

Mr. Kitazumi was formerly a reporter for Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) and is currently working as a freelancer based in Yangon.

In Myanmar, confrontations between protesters opposing the military coup and the military police continue. About 20 people, including participants, were also detained during the protests on this day.
