From March 8, Themes of Memory, Companionship, and Peace
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 26th that it will promote the 'Geochang Incident 1st Pilgrimage Certification Event' at the site of the 'Geochang Incident' victims to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Geochang Incident this year.
This event is conducted under three themes: 'We will remember that day. We will not forget the victims. We will protect peace without war.' Participants can naturally learn about the history of the Geochang Incident while completing missions with their families.
Geochang County is linking this event with the health center walking event 'Geochanghan Wheels Walking Report.' The first 500 people who visit at least four of the five pilgrimage sites related to the Geochang Incident and upload certification photos to the challenge participation board will receive mobile gift certificates.
Those wishing to participate can install the mobile app 'WalkOn' and join the relevant community.
The pilgrimage sites are ▲Geochang Incident History Education Center ▲Tallyanggol Victim Site ▲Baksan Joint Cemetery ▲Baksangol Bullet Marked Rock ▲Cheongyeon Village Victim Site, totaling five locations. Anyone interested in the Geochang Incident and possessing a smartphone can participate. However, participation is limited to once per person.
The first event will be held from March 8 to April 30. During the event period, tulips, cherry blossoms, and azaleas will bloom consecutively from mid-April at the Geochang Incident Memorial Park.
The Geochang Massacre of Civilians was an incident in February 1951 during the Korean War, where soldiers from the 11th Division of the Republic of Korea Army collectively massacred village residents in Sinwon-myeon, Geochang.
