[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, mentioned the passage of the Gadeokdo Special Act in the plenary session on the 26th, saying, "Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) will迎 a new future."

Right after the passage of the Gadeokdo New Airport Special Act in the plenary session, Lee held a press conference in Busan and said, "The Gadeokdo New Airport has become an irreversible fait accompli." He added, "With the new airport in Gadeokdo, it will be reborn as a Northeast Asia logistics hub encompassing sky, land, and water."

Lee emphasized, "The southeastern region of Busan will leap into a future-oriented metropolitan economic zone, starting with the Gadeokdo New Airport." He promised, "I pledge to devote all efforts until the Gadeokdo New Airport is firmly on track," and said, "I believe not only myself but also Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader, and all Democratic Party lawmakers will join in."

Lee also said, "As you know, the Gadeokdo New Airport is the dream of Roh Moo-hyun," and stressed, "It has been 10 years since it was halted during Lee Myung-bak's administration, but we will diligently work to restore the lost decade."

Floor leader Kim Tae-nyeon also said, "The Gadeokdo New Airport has become an irreversible national project," and added, "The Democratic Party will actively support to fully realize the development dreams of the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region."

Meanwhile, the National Assembly held a plenary session today and passed the special law for the construction of the Gadeokdo New Airport with 181 votes in favor, 33 against, and 15 abstentions out of 229 total members. The law was passed after a debate between Kwon Sang-do of the People Power Party, Jin Sung-jun and Park Soo-young of the Democratic Party, and Shim Sang-jung of the Justice Party.
