Dasom Nursing Center director Kim Kyung-sook, the first person vaccinated in the Changwon area of Gyeongnam, receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] At 9 a.m. on the 26th, AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine vaccinations began nationwide targeting residents and workers of nursing hospitals and nursing facilities, and at Changwon Public Health Center in Gyeongnam, people are calmly receiving pre-screening questionnaires one by one.
Upon arrival at the vaccination site, recipients first fill out a pre-screening questionnaire. Then, they consult with a doctor about their health condition. The questionnaire includes questions about current pregnancy status, infection diagnosis, and severe allergic reactions.
The first vaccine recipient in Gyeongnam was Kim Kyungsook (62), the director of Dasom Senior Welfare Center in Changwon City. After receiving the vaccine, Kim said, "It felt comfortable to get vaccinated as if we had overcome a long wave with the staff for over a year."
When asked if it hurt during the vaccination, she replied, "It felt the same as when I got a flu shot." The entire process from waiting to vaccination took about 20 minutes.
Healthcare workers at the public health center boarded an ambulance to provide on-site vaccinations at Dasom Nursing Center.
At the same time, two medical staff from the public health center boarded an ambulance to visit Dasom Nursing Center for on-site vaccination.
Medical staff member Oh Jaehyun, preparing for the first visit vaccination, said, "Vaccination is a matter of great national interest, and safety is the biggest concern. We will complete it safely without any major issues," adding, "I hope this vaccination will help ease the COVID-19 situation."
After receiving the vaccine at the public health center, recipients must wait in the observation room for 15 to 30 minutes to monitor for any adverse reactions. Additionally, they need to monitor their condition for at least 3 hours after returning home and for a minimum of 3 days.
The recipients who were vaccinated on this day must receive their second dose 8 weeks later.
Meanwhile, following the first dose, from March 8, about 22,000 workers at 161 high-risk medical institutions, including tertiary general hospitals and general hospitals, will be vaccinated at their respective medical institutions.
Next, about 6,800 first responders to COVID-19 (119 ambulance teams, epidemiological investigators, patient transporters, specimen testers, and transport personnel) will receive vaccinations at public health centers during March.
Pfizer vaccines are scheduled to be administered in early March to about 1,500 people at nine medical institutions, including infectious disease-dedicated hospitals and residential treatment centers in the province.
