Chosun Ilgong University Baseball Team Officially Founded... "Expecting Expansion of College Baseball Base"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chosun Institute of Technology held an official founding ceremony for its baseball team and is beginning full-scale training.

Chosun Institute of Technology announced that it held the official founding ceremony for the baseball team on the afternoon of the 25th at the university auditorium.

The ceremony was attended by Jo Soon-gye, president of Chosun Institute of Technology; Kim Jun-seong, mayor of Yeonggwang County; representatives from the Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Council, Gwangju Metropolitan City Baseball Softball Association, University Baseball Federation; Kim Bu-gwan, the inaugural manager; players; and other related personnel.

Since 2019, Chosun Institute of Technology has continuously discussed establishing a baseball team to prevent the outflow of outstanding local players amid the era of 10 million spectators in professional baseball and to expand the base of university baseball.

In April last year, internal agreement on founding the baseball team was completed, and in May of the same year, an agreement was signed with Yeonggwang County, which has a modern baseball stadium in the Daemasan Industrial Complex, regarding the use of the baseball stadium, auxiliary training grounds, and player accommodations.

Additionally, Chosun Institute of Technology recently completed internal and external administrative procedures such as registration with the Gwangju City Baseball Softball Association and the Korea Baseball Softball Association. Having finalized all preparations for operating the university baseball team, it is now entering full-scale player training along with the official founding of the team.

Kim Bu-gwan, appointed as the inaugural manager of the Chosun Institute of Technology baseball team, has 25 years of experience coaching students after founding baseball teams at elementary, middle, and high schools in Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do.

He is a manager whose leadership in student baseball training has been proven through producing famous professional baseball players, winning national tournaments, and achieving runner-up in the Presidential Cup.

Chosun Institute of Technology has formed its coaching staff with experienced leaders from professional baseball, including Coach Kwon Chang-seon, Coach Yoon Do-kyung, and Coach Kim Min-seon.

The Chosun Institute of Technology baseball team consists of 21 freshmen, including those from the Leisure Sports Industry Department for the 2021 academic year, and is expected to make its debut in university baseball this year.

Jo Soon-gye, president of Chosun Institute of Technology, said, “We will spare no support so that players can balance their studies and sports while planning for their future,” and added, “I hope our university baseball team grows into a rising powerhouse that dominates Korean professional baseball along with winning national tournaments.”
