South Tibet is Chinese Territory... Chinese Netizens Frown
Some Say It's Not BTS's Fault but Their Agency's Mistake
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] China's state-run Global Times reported on the 25th that Big Hit Entertainment, the agency representing BTS, used an incorrect map, causing Chinese netizens to frown.
The media outlet stated that Big Hit Entertainment introduced its global activities from last year using a background map with errors on page 8 of its recently released financial report.
The Global Times reported that the map used by Big Hit Entertainment excluded South Tibet from Chinese territory.
The Global Times introduced that a Chinese blogger discovered the incorrect map and argued that the map should be corrected to prevent hostility between the peoples of the two countries.
The media stated that South Tibet is Chinese territory and that many Chinese netizens expressed displeasure over Big Hit Entertainment's use of the incorrect map.
The media also conveyed opinions from some Chinese netizens that this was Big Hit Entertainment's mistake, not BTS's issue, and that there was no need to blame BTS.
It further introduced claims that following BTS's remarks on the Korean War last year, Big Hit Entertainment has once again sparked controversy.
In October last year, BTS was awarded the 'Van Fleet Award' in recognition of their contribution to the development of Korea-US relations. At the award ceremony, BTS leader RM (Kim Nam-joon) said in his acceptance speech, "This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, and we must remember the painful history shared by both countries and the sacrifices of many men and women."
Chinese netizens took issue with this statement and attacked BTS. At that time, the Global Times reported that the phrase "the painful history shared by both countries" stirred resentment among Chinese netizens.
The Global Times added that many Chinese netizens expressed that the statement reflected a one-sided attitude that neglected history.
