Strengthening Fire Prevention Monitoring System and Forward Deployment of Firefighting Forces from 25th to 27th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Department will enter 'special alert duty' from the 25th to the 27th ahead of Jeongwol Daeboreum.
According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters on the 24th, this special alert duty aims to strengthen the fire prevention monitoring system and deploy firefighting forces forward to establish an initial response posture in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum on the 26th.
In the past three years, a total of 34 fires have occurred in the Jeonnam area during the Jeongwol Daeboreum period.
Casualties include one injury, and property damage amounted to 219 million KRW. Fires caused by negligence accounted for 53%, making up the majority.
Although most events hosted by local governments in the province were canceled to prevent the spread of COVID-19, small-scale events such as Daljip burning may still take place regionally, so the event sites will be frequently inspected to proactively prepare for fire occurrences.
In particular, during the special alert duty period, Jeonnam Fire Department plans to mobilize 14,870 personnel, including firefighters and volunteer firefighters, and 649 pieces of equipment.
Using these resources, they will conduct pre-inspections of fire risk factors at village-level self-organized event sites and manage safety in fire-vulnerable areas, establishing an emergency duty system to respond immediately to urgent situations.
Additionally, they will conduct three daily patrols of villages adjacent to forests and broadcast wildfire prevention announcements using firefighting vehicle broadcasting equipment. Firefighting forces such as pump trucks will be deployed forward during events to maintain a rapid initial response system.
Jeonnam Fire Headquarters Chief Ma Jaeyoon stated, “Due to dry weather and strong winds, many forest fires and wildfires occur,” and urged, “Please be especially cautious as wildfires can easily escalate into large-scale forest fires.”
