[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 24th that he will push for the opening of the new airport on Gadeokdo Island before the 2030 Busan World Expo.
On the morning of the same day, at the National Assembly, during a meeting of the Supreme Council where he received a petition signed by the former Gadeokdo New Airport Citizens' Promotion Group urging the passage of the new airport, Lee said, "Residents of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) do not need to worry even a bit."
Regarding Lee Ji-hoo, the permanent representative of the Gadeok New Airport Citizens' Promotion Group, who expressed concerns that the deletion of the clause in the Gadeokdo New Airport Special Act stating the intention to make the new airport the gateway airport for the 2030 Busan World Expo might make it difficult to complete the airport before 2030, Lee emphasized, "Whether or not the related clause exists, the very fact that we are processing the Special Act as promised this time is to open the airport before the 2030 Expo."
He added, "We will take the aspirations of the residents of Bu-Ul-Gyeong as seriously as precious gold," promising the passage of the Special Act and subsequent measures.
