The Only Emergency Medical Institution in Busan Area Expanding Medical Services for Symptomatic Emergency Patients

Daedong Hospital Selected for Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Emergency Room Isolation Bed Installation Support Project' Daedong Hospital Emergency Medical Center.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Daedong Hospital (Director Park Kyung-hwan) was selected as a recipient on the 23rd for the "Emergency Medical Institution Isolation Bed Installation Support Project" led by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

This project supports the installation of negative pressure and general isolation beds within emergency rooms so that emergency patients with COVID-19 symptoms can be treated separately from general emergency patients.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare accepted applications nationwide from emergency medical institutions through the National Medical Center (Central Emergency Medical Center) at the end of January.

The government prepared a total budget of 11.098 billion KRW for this project. Priority was given to institutions currently designated as emergency medical institutions under the Emergency Medical Service Act that either do not have isolation beds or can install additional beds within the first quarter.

For selected institutions, the government supports 80% of the installation costs, with the medical institutions covering 20%. For negative pressure isolation beds, up to 200 million KRW is supported, and for general isolation beds, up to 16 million KRW is provided.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare selected a total of 60 hospitals in the first round based on the project plans submitted by emergency medical institutions. The scale of support is approximately 30 billion KRW.

Daedong Hospital Regional Emergency Medical Center was the only medical institution in Busan selected as a support recipient. Daedong Hospital plans to install and operate general isolation rooms by March, and through this first round of support, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has secured an additional 13 negative pressure isolation rooms and 73 general isolation rooms nationwide.

Isolation beds within emergency rooms are normally operated as treatment facilities for general emergency patients, but will be used for treating infectious disease patients in cases of respiratory emergency patients or infectious disease crises.

Since its promotion to a regional emergency medical center in 2019, Daedong Hospital has been the only regional emergency medical center in the East Busan area, responsible for treating severe emergency patients.

In addition to this project, Daedong Hospital was also selected for the "2021 Mobile Isolation Bed Installation Support Project" announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare at the end of January, and has been operating two additional mobile negative pressure isolation rooms since early March, striving to improve regional emergency medical services.

Park Kyung-hwan, director of Daedong Hospital, said, "There have been difficulties due to limited negative pressure isolation rooms to treat emergency patients with respiratory symptoms or fever symptoms," and added, "Daedong Hospital Regional Emergency Medical Center will do its best to lead appropriate treatment for severe emergency patients and save precious lives."
