Despite Multiple Overturns, Minimal Interior Damage
Life Saved Thanks to Cushion Effect
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The LA County Sheriff's Department has stated that 'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods did not suffer fatal injuries as there was no damage inside the vehicle.
According to CNN on the 23rd (local time), LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said at a press conference that the interior of the Hyundai Genesis GV80 vehicle Woods was riding in was almost undamaged.
He explained that the front of the vehicle was completely destroyed and the airbags deployed. He said this situation acted as a cushion that helped Woods avoid fatal injuries. Sheriff Villanueva added that Woods was wearing a seatbelt.
Regarding the cause of the accident, it is presumed that the vehicle was speeding on a downhill curve. The accident area is known as a place where car accidents frequently occur.
Since the car flew a considerable distance off the road, it is understood that it had gained sufficient acceleration. Authorities stated there was no sign that Woods tried to slow down the vehicle. At the scene, there were no tire skid marks indicating braking.
Sheriff Villanueva assessed that the GV80 vehicle Woods was in crossed into the opposite lane, then collided with a curb and a tree, and rolled over multiple times.
Woods was urgently transported to the hospital after the accident and underwent surgery for a complex leg fracture.
