[Breaking] All 1,161 COVID-19 Cases in Wando Test Negative... Signs of Stabilization? Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor

[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters reporters Lee Jun-kyung and Choi Kyung-pil] In Wando, Jeollanam-do, all 1,161 people who underwent COVID-19 testing following the confirmation of a daycare teacher tested negative, showing signs of easing.

According to Wando County on the 24th, COVID-19 tests were conducted on 1,161 residents who had overlapping movement paths with confirmed cases related to Wando A Daycare Center at 11:21 p.m. the previous day, and all tested negative.

Wando quarantine authorities became highly alert after the COVID-19 confirmation of a night shift daycare teacher (Jeonnam No. 835), who commuted from Mokpo on the 22nd, was followed by positive cases in two other daycare teachers and two children on the same day, raising concerns about spread.

In particular, it was revealed that the daycare teacher had visited more than 10 places, including restaurants, bathhouses, and dental clinics, from the 15th to the 21st, raising the possibility of a cluster infection and causing anxiety among residents. Fortunately, no additional confirmed cases have occurred, and quarantine authorities believe the worst has been avoided.

A Wando Health and Medical Center official stated, “All personnel related to the daycare where the confirmed case emerged were tested, and residents with overlapping movement paths with the confirmed case were required to undergo testing unconditionally,” adding, “No additional confirmed cases have been reported so far, so we are somewhat relieved.”

He continued, “However, there are close contacts who require a second round of additional testing, so the situation is not yet safe,” and added, “We will continue to conduct comprehensive testing by identifying residents with overlapping movement paths with the confirmed cases.”

Meanwhile, Wando County ordered the closure of all daycare centers in the area and took preemptive measures by identifying the movement paths and close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
