Dongjak-gu Supports 60% of Disinfection Costs for Sand Flooring in Children's Play Facilities

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will carry out the "2021 Children's Playground Sand Surface Disinfection Cost Support" project until December.

Since 2019, the district has been the first autonomous district in Seoul to use its own budget to support the disinfection costs of sand surfaces in children's playgrounds within apartment complexes.

The eligible applicants are 12 apartment complexes with sand flooring playgrounds, totaling 19 locations within the district. Support is provided once in the first half (March-April) and once in the second half (September-October) of the year.

The specific support includes ▲inspection of sand condition and foreign substance contamination ▲removal of broken glass pieces, nails, animal feces, gravel, etc. from the sand using a sand filtering machine ▲high-pressure sterilization cleaning and disinfection using high-concentration ozone water ▲maintenance of sand hardness using a soil conditioner.

Apartment complexes wishing to participate in the first half of the project must submit the application form, a resolution from the residents' representative meeting (copy of the minutes), and supporting documents for the project cost calculation by March 12, either by visiting or mailing to the Housing Division of the district office.

In March, the district will review and select target sites based on the necessity of the project, appropriateness of the budget, and the year of completion, and plans to provide support funds in April.

The support amount is approximately 1,200 KRW per square meter, covering 60% of the disinfection cost, while the apartment complexes are responsible for 40%, about 800 KRW.

Han Sang-hyuk, head of the Housing Division, said, "Through this project, we will improve the harmful environment of playgrounds and ensure safety to create a play environment where children and guardians can feel secure," and added, "We hope for the interest and participation of many apartment complexes."
