6-Month Research Project Launched... Developing Tourism Products for Sibiryeong, Gochoryeong, and Gujureong Mountain Passes
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Uljin County, Gyeongbuk, held a kickoff meeting for the 'Old Road Tourism Resource Development' research project at the county office on the 18th, officially embarking on the development of 'mountain pass roads' that hold cultural and economic value in the region.
According to Uljin County on the 23rd, the old roads of Sibiryung, Gochoryeong, and Gujuryeong in Uljin, which connect the East Coast to the inland, were mountain pass roads used by peddlers in the past to transport seafood such as salt, fish, and seaweed purchased at Uljin Market and Maehwa Market to inland markets like Bonghwa Chunyang Market and Yeongyang Subi Market.
Along these paths, which once served as commercial and distribution networks for peddlers, cultural and economic value has naturally emerged with the formation of tavern villages and monuments.
At the meeting, the Daegu Haany University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, the research agency, attended and presented the current status of Uljin's old roads, cases of resource development of domestic roads, and plans for future task discovery.
Over the next six months, Uljin County plans to collaborate with the research agency to identify the strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement of the existing peddler roads and to promote various measures such as large-scale government projects and small-scale regional development projects so that Uljin's old roads can become new tourism resources linked with local assets.
Jeon Chan-geol, the mayor of Uljin County, stated, "Although there are many tourist sites related to roads nationwide, we will strive to develop Uljin's old roads differentiated from other tourist sites so that Uljin County can become the best tourist destination in the untact era."
