'Silver Sparrow' Malware Detected in 153 Countries
About 30,000 Apple Mac computers have been infected with malicious software, CNN reported on the 21st (local time), citing cybersecurity company Red Canary and others.
According to Malwarebytes, a website that blocks ransomware attacks, as of the 17th, Mac computers in 153 countries have been infected with a malicious program named 'Silver Sparrow,' with particularly high infection rates in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and Germany.
The purpose of this malicious program is unclear, but it is reported to contain code that negatively affects Apple's M1 chip and is equipped with a 'self-destruct' mechanism that can erase traces. Experts pointed out that "Silver Sparrow could pose a quite serious threat."
Apple first released its independently developed system-on-chip (SoC, a technologically intensive semiconductor that integrates multiple system functions into a single chip), the M1, along with laptops and desktops equipped with it, in November last year.
