Prof. Jeong Myung-ho of Jeonnam National University Hospital Receives Great Response for Online Special Lecture at Japanese Cardiovascular Intervention Society

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Professor Jeong Myeong-ho of the Department of Cardiology at Chonnam National University Hospital recently gained significant attention by introducing treatment methods for acute myocardial infarction in Koreans at the Japanese Cardiovascular Intervention Society.

According to Chonnam National University Hospital on the 22nd, Professor Jeong, recognized as a leading cardiologist in Korea, gave a special online lecture at the 29th Japanese Cardiovascular Intervention Society held in Sendai, Japan, for three days starting from the 18th, upon invitation by Society Chairman Yoshiaki Katahira.

In this special lecture, Professor Jeong discussed the experience of the Korea Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR), a registration study on Korean myocardial infarction patients conducted since 2005.

The lecture covered topics such as the method of administering antiplatelet agents to myocardial infarction patients using the KAMIR-DAPT score, which was jointly researched with Japan and presented at the European Society of Cardiology, as well as various treatment experiences of myocardial infarction patients published in the Japanese and American cardiology journals.

In particular, the achievement that KAMIR has significantly reduced the mortality rate of myocardial infarction patients from 11.4% to 6.7% through cardiovascular intervention procedures with a nearly 100% success rate of 99.4% over the past 10 years attracted great interest from the attendees.

KAMIR has registered a total of over 77,000 patients to date and has demonstrated world-class research performance by publishing a total of 307 papers.

Additionally, KAMIR was introduced to the Japanese Circulation Society in 2013, playing a role in the formation of the JAMIR research team in Japan, and the KAMIR-JAMIR joint symposium has been held annually since then.

Professor Jeong stated, “Through this special lecture, we have proven the excellence of Korean medical care to global cardiovascular intervention experts, including those from Japan,” adding, “It also served as an opportunity to elevate the status of the Heart Center at Chonnam National University Hospital and the Korean Society of Cardiology, and it is expected to increase interest in the National Cardiovascular Center to be established in the future.”
