[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Kim Jong-in, the Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, criticized on the 22nd the earlier remarks by President Moon Jae-in about providing COVID-19 relief payments to all citizens, saying, "Please speak with rational thinking."

At the Emergency Committee meeting held that day, Chairman Kim said, "I have never seen such a populist talk about giving disaster relief funds from the president," and added, "Please explain in detail the basis for providing disaster relief payments."

He continued, "I cannot understand the government's contradictory statements," and criticized, "While worrying about the national debt issue, on the other hand, talking about wasteful government spending in a populist manner?on what grounds is this based?"

He said, "I find it quite puzzling whether the president truly understands the basic concept of national finances when making such remarks," and added, "It is difficult to determine when the COVID-19 situation will end, and I want to ask whether it is appropriate to use finances in that way."
