[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Starting this weekend, the bus-only lane section on the Yeongdong Expressway will be significantly reduced.
The National Police Agency announced on the 22nd that it will implement an improvement plan from the 27th to adjust the bus-only lane section on the Yeongdong Expressway to the Singal Junction?Hobeop Junction (26.9 km).
The bus-only lane on the Yeongdong Expressway was designated from Singal Junction to Yeoju Junction (41.4 km) starting August 2017, ahead of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
However, after the Olympics ended, concerns were raised that it was worsening congestion in the general lanes. Accordingly, the National Police Agency finalized a plan to adjust the operation section by synthesizing traffic volume analysis results and opinions from bus and civic groups, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Korea Expressway Corporation.
Korea Expressway Corporation plans to complete the reorganization of 54 bus-only lane guide signs and repaint 29 km of bus-only lanes in both directions by this weekend.
The National Police Agency stated, “We will continue to review reasonable operation plans for the bus-only lane systems on the Gyeongbu and Yeongdong Expressways in cooperation with bus and civic groups, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Korea Expressway Corporation.”
