[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] AFP reported on the 19th (local time), citing the Palestinian Authority (PA), that Israel has agreed to vaccinate 100,000 Palestinian workers employed within its borders against COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health stated that both sides agreed to 'technical cooperation' to combat the spread of the virus. However, the timing of the vaccination rollout was not disclosed.
Israel is conducting the fastest mass COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the world.
Since December last year, Israel has administered the Pfizer vaccine to approximately 4.25 million people, about 47% of its total population of 9 million. Among them, 2.88 million have already completed the recommended second dose.
The Palestinian Authority has ordered about 2 million doses of vaccines from various manufacturers and is awaiting delivery. This is in addition to the vaccine distribution project 'COVAX,' supported by the UN for low- and middle-income countries.
Earlier this month, the Palestinian side began vaccinating frontline healthcare workers with 10,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and several thousand doses of the Moderna vaccine through Israel.
