Release of '5G Bokji 55' and '5G Bokji 75' on the 22nd
Additional call minutes increased to 600 per month, doubling compared to standard 5G plans
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] LG Uplus is launching dedicated plans for the 5G underserved groups.
LG Uplus announced on the 21st that it will launch the 5G welfare plans for people with disabilities, ‘5G Bokji 55’ and ‘5G Bokji 75,’ on the 22nd. These are the first disability-exclusive services introduced in the domestic 5G rate market, expanding video and additional calls up to 600 minutes per month for hearing-impaired customers who communicate via sign language and those with mobility difficulties. This is twice the amount offered by the highest-priced 5G plan, ‘5G Signature (130,000 KRW/month).’
The 5G Bokji plans also include basic mobile data packages. The 5G Bokji 55 offers 12GB of 5G data per month (speed limited to 1Mbps after usage) at 55,000 KRW/month (VAT included), with voice calls and texts included as standard. The 5G Bokji 75 is priced at 75,000 KRW/month (VAT included) and includes 150GB of data (speed limited to 5Mbps after usage), also with voice calls and texts included.
Hyunseung Lee, Head of Rate Planning at LG Uplus, said, “As the 5G market rapidly popularized last year with 12 million subscribers, we recognized the need for welfare plans for underserved groups. We hope that the expanded dedicated call minutes will allow people with disabilities to use the plans effectively and that it will also be useful for those who want to use 5G services and devices.”
Anyone holding a disability welfare card can subscribe to these two plans. They can receive overlapping discounts including a 25% discount on communication fees (optional contract), family bundle discounts, and welfare discounts. The additional 600 minutes provided refer to video calls or calls to nationwide representative numbers starting with 15XX or 16XX. Calls between general landlines or mobile customers are free of charge.
Previously, LG Uplus introduced two new LTE welfare plans last month: ‘LTE Bokji 33 (33,000 KRW/month)’ and ‘LTE Bokji 49 (49,000 KRW/month).’ Compared to existing LTE welfare plans, prices were reduced by about 5%, and additional call minutes were expanded. These plans also provide 600 minutes of additional calls per month, the same as the 5G Bokji plans. Data includes 2GB per month for LTE Bokji 33 and 6GB per month for LTE Bokji 49 (speed limited to 1Mbps after usage).
