[Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun visited the COVID-19 vaccine distribution and transportation site on the 20th to check the preparation status and encourage the personnel involved.
On the morning of the same day, Prime Minister Jeong visited the SK Bioscience headquarters located in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, to inspect the distribution preparation status at the integrated control center and encourage the personnel. Attendees included Choi Chang-won, Vice Chairman and CEO of SK Discovery, Ahn Jae-yong, CEO of SK Bioscience, Cho Tae-jun, Head of Development Strategy at SK Bioscience, National Assembly members Park Sang-hyuk and Kim Kyung-man, and Park Joo-kyung, Head of the Central Vaccination Promotion Team's Transportation Support Headquarters.
Prime Minister Jeong received a report on the COVID-19 vaccine distribution preparation status from Head of Development Strategy Cho and visited the integrated situation room to check the Internet of Things (IoT)-based real-time monitoring system and examined the vaccine containers.
Prime Minister Jeong stated, "Next week, the AstraZeneca vaccine will be shipped for the first time from the SK Bioscience Andong plant, and on the 26th, the historic first domestic vaccination is scheduled to take place," adding, "Since COVID-19 vaccines have strict storage and distribution conditions depending on the product and a short shelf life, customized distribution management will ultimately determine the success or failure of the vaccination."
He also said, "The government is making thorough preparations, including conducting simulation training for each vaccine to ensure that vaccines produced at domestic and overseas factories are safely transported to the final vaccination institutions and that the quality of the vaccines is maintained," urging the on-site personnel, "Since vaccinations must be carried out for the entire population within a short period, please do not let your guard down and strive for flawless distribution management."
