[Asia Economy Reporter Nahana] In South America’s Peru, a police officer was kissed by a woman who violated the nighttime curfew and subsequently exempted her from a fine.
According to the Daily Mail on the 18th (local time), a woman who was caught violating the nighttime curfew imposed as a COVID-19 preventive measure on a quiet roadside in Peru approached the police officer and tried to kiss him, saying, "Please let me go just this once."
The police officer initially seemed to refuse by turning his face away but then looked around and moved with the woman to a secluded spot.
Afterward, the police officer received a kiss from the woman and ultimately waived the fine.
This scene was filmed by a bystander and caused controversy after the video was released through local media.
The Peruvian police authorities suspended the officer and launched an investigation for formal disciplinary action.
Additionally, the police authorities believe that the officer not only improperly waived the fine but also violated quarantine rules by removing his mask to kiss the woman.
Meanwhile, Peru is implementing lockdown measures such as nighttime curfews and restrictions on commercial facility usage due to the persistent spread of COVID-19. The population is about 33 million, with a cumulative 1,261,804 confirmed cases and 44,489 deaths. Since the 9th, the country has started administering the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. According to Bloomberg’s tally on the 19th, the vaccination rate relative to the population is 0.4%.
