Free Screening of Three Urban Industry Stories: 'Cheonggyecheon Medley', 'Cheonggyecheon Atlas', and 'Si, So'... Screening and Exhibition at Euljiro Arts Center from 19th to March 7th... Online Screening Available on YouTube Channel Until 24th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) will screen three documentaries that capture the stories of urban industries around Cheonggyecheon.
This event, planned by the Jung-gu Cultural Foundation, aims to share various aspects of Cheonggyecheon's specialized manufacturing culture with urban artists, technicians, and residents by presenting documentary films depicting manufacturing sites around Cheonggyecheon both online and offline.
The areas around Cheonggyecheon, Euljiro, and Sewoon are key spaces for Seoul's urban manufacturing, where small manufacturing companies with decades of history exist, and skilled workers with long experience are concentrated, creating a unique manufacturing ecosystem.
The reason these factories in the area are often referred to as "places where even tanks can be made" is that more than half of the manufacturing companies in the Sewoon area are specialized firms focused on a single product or process, with an average of 31.4 years of experience in one field, demonstrating deep expertise in their niche.
This event, which offers a 10-year record of Cheonggyecheon, will screen three works free of charge: ▲Cheonggyecheon Medley (Park Kyung-geun, 2010) ▲Cheonggyecheon Atlas: Maker City (Cheonggyecheon Euljiro Preservation Alliance, 2019) ▲Poetry, Cow (Jung Dong-gu, 2020).
'Cheonggyecheon Medley' was a nominee in the competition section of the 61st Berlin International Film Festival and is an experimental documentary that sensually reveals Cheonggyecheon, representing Korea's industrialization, through images and sound.
'Cheonggyecheon Atlas: Maker City' was nominated in the Life Space category at the 24th Seoul Human Rights Film Festival and poses existential questions about the direction of Seoul's urban planning through various interviews related to urban regeneration.
'Poetry, Cow' captures the process where three artists and production technicians form close relationships on the Sewoon Bridge over Cheonggyecheon and engage with citizens.
The films will be shown offline from the 19th to March 7th at the Euljiro Arts Center (18, Changgyeonggung-ro 5da-gil, Jung-gu), along with an exhibition offering a glimpse into the making of 'Poetry, Cow.' Reservations can be made in advance through Naver.
Additionally, if reserved in advance via Naver by the 24th, individual screening links will be sent via text message, allowing online viewing as well.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Euljiro Arts Center.
Seoyangho, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "The Cheonggyecheon area is not only valuable because it concentrates unique production knowledge such as new industries, collaboration with skilled technicians with over 30 years of experience, and various technical processes, but also because local production has become important as borders closed due to COVID-19, bringing renewed attention to urban manufacturing. I hope this screening event will be an opportunity to share the 10-year record of this area and to foster interest in the manufacturing sites of Cheonggyecheon."
