Defeat in US Apple App Store Antitrust Lawsuit Moves to EU

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] According to AP News on the 17th (local time), the antitrust lawsuit against Apple over the App Store is expanding its front from the United States to Europe.

According to the report, US game developer Epic Games filed an antitrust violation lawsuit against Apple with the European Union regulatory authorities on the same day.

In the complaint, Epic Games claimed that "Apple is violating EU regulations by abusing its dominant market position and deliberately excluding competitors."

US game developer Epic Games, which developed the mobile game 'Fortnite' last year, was removed after setting up its own payment system to avoid the 30% commission charged by Apple.

Apple closed Epic Games' developer account on the App Store, citing a violation of its policies, and Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Apple in the California Federal District Court.

Earlier, a bill was proposed in North Dakota, USA, to prevent mobile app developers from paying payment commissions to Apple or Google, but it was rejected in the Senate vote.

This bill prohibits app developers from distributing apps only through their own platforms or forcing payment methods to be in-app purchases only.
