[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 18th that it will partner with Kakao to join KakaoTalk Order. Through the KakaoTalk Order service, it will offer over 600 products including convenience foods, beverages, snacks, and daily necessities. Various benefits such as giveaways and discounts can be enjoyed just as in offline stores. The minimum order amount is 10,000 KRW, and the delivery fee is 3,000 KRW.
Unlike industry trends where companies join through intermediary operators, BGF Retail has signed a direct contract with Kakao and operates the service itself. Starting with the CU Yeoksam branch located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, CU plans to conduct tests in major metropolitan areas until mid-next month and then expand the service nationwide in April.
With this entry into KakaoTalk Order, CU will operate delivery services on five channels, the most in the industry, expanding its delivery service area to include major delivery platforms such as Yogiyo, Owen, Wemakeprice O, as well as the two major portals Kakao and Naver.
A BGF Retail official said, “Services linked with the two major portals have a low barrier to entry such as app installation and membership registration, so regardless of KakaoTalk Order’s current market share in the overall delivery market, we see it as a channel with great future potential,” adding, “As the boundaries between online and offline distribution blur, we will continue to expand collaboration with the IT industry to secure online competitiveness.”
