[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 17th, "The principle is to open all public data so that citizens can conveniently use it, and we will establish methods and procedures accordingly," adding, "Data that has been in high demand in the fields of national tax, health, and education will be made available within this year."

Prime Minister Chung made these remarks while presiding over the 21st meeting of the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee (4th IRC) at the Government Seoul Office in the afternoon.

The government decided to expand and reorganize the 4th IRC into a 'data control tower' under a co-chair system led by the Prime Minister and the private sector. This meeting was the first held after restructuring the system to promote data policies at the whole-of-government level.

As co-chair, Prime Minister Chung said, "Today's meeting holds special significance as the 4th IRC takes its first step as the control tower for national data policy," and added, "I expect this to be a new starting point for the Republic of Korea to become a leading country in the data economy."

Prime Minister Chung emphasized, "We will activate data trading and distribution systems so that accurate data flows to where it is needed in a timely manner to create value," and urged related ministries to establish foundational elements for promoting data trading. He also added, "By maximizing the use of data in preventing and responding to disasters such as infectious diseases, earthquakes, fires, and water management, we will prepare measures to enable science-based decision-making."

However, Prime Minister Chung noted, "There are still many uncertainties regarding pseudonymized information," and stated, "We will create safe pseudonymization cases, promote related technological development, and pursue institutional improvements related to legal responsibilities."
